Where?
RAEBL is located on the South shore of Montreal, Quebec (Canada), 15-20 minutes from YUL, Montreal's international airport. With an average daily flow of 17 MGD, it generates about 100 wet tons of residual sludge per day, 6 days a week. Until recently, the cake was being hauled to a landfill, as beneficial use was impossible; pathogens’ level ruled out land application or soil remediation while the high water content disqualified sound energy scenarios.
With upcoming, more stringent state regulations, the current disposal costs were expected to increase and the plant’s management team sought out for long term solutions to overcome this financial burden. After reviewing commercially available solutions, GL&V Canada Inc – Eimco Water Technologies Division’s (EWT) advanced dewatering technology was selected by RAEBL. The main drivers in favor of Linear Electro Dewatering were:
• Seamless integration with existing processes and equipment
• Up to 50% dry solids with exceptional energy efficiency
• More than 50% reduction in their sludge disposal costs
• Pathogen elimination (P-1/Class A grade)
• Energy efficiency
The Cinetik equipment installed at RAEBL takes the 14.5% TS cake off the existing belt filter presses and dewaters it to 35% TS. This translates into a volume reduction of about 60%, generating a straight saving on the plant’s operating budget
